Nabih Tahan, a registered California architect and principal of Bau Technologies commissioned MM to design, fabricate and install stainless steel railings for his Berkeley bungalow converted into a passive house.
Like he did with his home, Nabih specializes in improving the energy performance of residential and commercial buildings. He integrates advanced European energy strategies and modern prefabrication building techniques to reduce energy consumption.
Working within a fixed budget, MM presented Nabih with a system that would reduce material costs and fabrication labor using a CNC (computer numerical control) cut kit of parts.
MM attributes this project and Nabih's advanced construction ideas as an inspiration to utilize CNC and parametric design to create cost-effective projects. All components for this railing system other than the top rail came from one sheet of 4x8 ft 10ga. stainless steel.
